This Sunday we’re in week 6 of our Bible in 10 series, & its all about the Exile; seeing Hope in the Face of Hopelesssness.
God’s faithfulness to his people & his promises remain true, binding & untainted despite their sinful behaviour & exile.
The exile creates a tension between hopelessness & hope; a hopelessness created by the reality that sinful man stands separated from God, under his judgement, where condemnation is right & just & deserved for our sinful acts of choosing self-desire over God (& we see this with Israel’s constant sinfulness & idolatry leading to their exile), but there’s a hope created by God’s faithfulness in refusing to abandon man to this hopelessness & sin, but he promises to save (& we see this as God rescued his people from exile & rekindled his promises to them).
For us today the hopelessness of sin is still a reality, but so is God’s faithfulness to save as all his promises are perfectly fulfilled in Jesus. In the face of hopelessness there is a great hope & his name is Jesus. God’s doesn’t abandon sinful man to the slavery & bondage of sin & death but through his coming in the Lord Jesus displays his enduring faithfulness to save us.
